For the third year in a row, St Giles Hospice Lottery worked alongside Lichfield Tree Works Ltd to offer a hassle-free service for people in the charity’s catchment area to have their real Christmas trees picked up and chipped in return for a donation.

An impressive sum of £8,500 was raised for St Giles through the scheme, after 903 local people and businesses signed up to have their tree taken away!

Aaron Coleman, Events Organiser for St Giles Hospice, says: “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the amazing response we received during our ‘Christmas Treecycle’ campaign and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who was involved.

“We originally started offering the service back in 2014, and since then it has got bigger and better every year with more and more people signing up to support their local hospice – to raise £8,500 is just incredible.”

A number of local businesses sponsored the ‘Christmas Treecycle’ campaign alongside Lichfield Tree Works Ltd, including Magical Story and The Christmas Decorators, while Spectrum Plant in Cannock kindly provided £500 worth of chipper machinery without charge.

Anker Van Hire and A1 Vehicle Rentals also offered their services at a discounted price and Lichfield Cathedral signed up to have 45 trees collected from its Christmas Tree Festival.

“We are so grateful to all of our sponsors and volunteers – without them the ‘Christmas Treecycle’ campaign simply wouldn’t be possible,” continues Aaron.

“We’d also like to say a massive thank you to all of the donors and people who signed up to have their trees collected – your generous support has raised thousands of pounds which will help us to continue delivering high-quality care for people living with cancer and other serious illnesses.”

Nick Meade, Director of Lichfield Tree Works Ltd, says: “We were delighted to work alongside St Giles Hospice once again for the ‘Christmas Treecycle’ campaign and are thrilled with the amount of money raised for this very worthy charity.”
