As well as enjoying tea and cake, the party was also an opportunity to bounce around ideas about how to make the park even better, using the remaining funding.

Jeremy Trill, Lichfield District Council’s Regeneration Officer, said: “The tea party was a huge success and hundreds of people gave their views on ways we can make the park even better, including making the park richer in wildflowers, butterflies, birds and other wildlife.

“It was great to see local people of all ages enjoying the park and celebrating the work that has been done. I would like to say thank you to everyone who came along and to everyone who gave their time to make the event such a huge success.”

The Shortbutts Park transformation project recently scooped a commendation for significant contribution to town planning in the recent Royal Town & Planning Institute’s Summer Ball.

To continue the improvement works, local residents are invited to help out at planting events planned this autumn. At the events, taking place on Sunday 25 September and Sunday 30 October, volunteers will be planting daffodil and tulip bulbs around the football pitches. The events will also be a chance for local residents to donate plants to the park.
