Samuel Johnson at 300

I went to the Samuel Johnson at 300 son et lumiere show on Friday night which was very illuminating(!) I learnt a load of stuff I didn't previously know, including the fact that I'm not very good at standing still for 2 hours. Apart from the tired legs it was very good. Being fairly ignorant, all I really knew about Sam was that he wrote a dictionary. It turns out he did a whole lot more and that he was quite a complicated character. When I heard about his "Rambler" magazine in which he published his musings on life, the universe and everything it struck me that it was an 18th century blog. All that's changed in three hundred years is the technology - oh and the quality of the musings has gone down too! I still haven't been inside Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum despite living in Lichfield for nearly 14 years, something I will now have to put right. I think that's the celebrations over now until 2109 so if there's a big gap in your life and you're looking for something to do, have a look at our Events section which is packed with forthcoming events (yes, I am sorry, a very poor link but it's the best I could do on a Monday morning.)
