At the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday 8 May 2012, Councillor Ken Humphreys was sworn in as the new Chairman of Lichfield District Council. Councillor David Leytham was sworn in as Vice Chairman.

As the chairman, Councillor Humphreys will represent the district at a wide range of functions across the district and region - including royal visits, community and charity events. He will also chair council meetings and work throughout the year to raise money for charity.

Councillor Ken Humphreys, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said: “My grandfather, Hubert Humphreys, was the Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 1950, so I am really proud to be following in his footsteps and taking on such a prestigious role.

“With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and The Olympic Torch Relay travelling through the district, 2012 is set to be an exciting year. I am looking forward to meeting people from across the district and region, and I will do my best to represent the council over the coming year.

“The charities I will be raising money for are Midlands Air Ambulance and the We Love Lichfield Fund.”

Cllr Humphreys took over the role of chairman from Councillor Bernard Derrick.

Also at the council meeting, Councillor Mike Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, welcomed a new assistant Cabinet Member, Councillor Christopher Spruce onto the Cabinet. Councillor Spruce will be taking on the new role of assistant Cabinet Member for Finance, Revenues and Benefits.
