The Mozart Clarinet Quintet & Crusell Quartet will be the first performance in a new classical concert series at the theatre.

Historical researcher and musician, Jane Booth joins Ensemble DeNote to perform Mozart’s acclaimed Clarinet Quintet playing a basset clarinet similar to the instrument used in the first performance in 1789.

Jane is an internationally renowned performer and musicologist, working with the Academy of Ancient Music, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Tafelmusik.

The Clarinet Quintet by Mozart is instantly recognizable as one of the composer’s finest works and the use of the basset clarinet brings out some of the richness and depth which is lost in adaptations for the modern clarinet.

It will be followed by the Crusell Quartet. Crusell, a contemporary of Mozart, was an early clarinet virtuoso whose works for this instrument are full of drama and lyricism, showcasing the instrument’s virtuosity and versatility.

Jane is currently researching the clarinet music of Crusell and so we can look forward to a musical and historically performed concert of these beautiful Quartets.

Executive Director of the Lichfield Garrick, Karen Foster, who previously worked touring internationally with professional orchestras said: “I have known Jane Booth’s playing for many years and I know that this will be a superb concert. Jane’s mellifluous tone, musicality, and in depth knowledge of the style and techniques of this period will bring a historically accurate and fresh feel to this timeless music. Don’t miss one of our foremost clarinetists performing gems from the Classical era.”

The Mozart Clarinet Quintet and Crusell Quartet performance will be at the Lichfield Garrick on Sunday 23rd April at 3pm. Tickets are £20 and £15 (students).

The theatre is also arranging pre-show afternoon tea in its Green Room Bar and Café, the perfect start to a wonderful afternoon of classical music. Tickets are available from www.lichfieldgarrick.com or call the box office on 01543 412121.
