The Lichfield Garrickare all set to open their second Community Musical opening on Monday 31st July, The Dreaming has been produced and directed by the Lichfield Garrick’s Artistic Director, Tim Ford.

“The Dreaming is the perfect summer musical, it’s funny, light and magical. It has been a real opportunity for us to play with the space here at the theatre, there will be many surprises in store. The creative team have been amazing and we can’t wait to share our magical dreamy world with everybody” said Tim.

The Dreaming is the second Community Musical produced by the Lichfield Garrick, following on the success of 2016’s production, The Hired Man, enforcing the theatre’s commitment to support the arts in Lichfield and across the district. As well as the cast there are a number of volunteers and crew who are working behind the scenes to make this show happen. From make-up artists to costume makers, set designers to stage managers, The Dreaming has brought together a wide range of theatre makers from across the region who are passionate in making this show happen.

Tim added: “There has been so much support from the local community and industry specialists with some very kind set donations including scaffolding poles, lighting and multi-colour playballs. The team are currently working very hard behind the scenes in putting the set together ahead of opening night. We are still on the lookout for any aspiring make-up artists to help out on the week of the show. If you would like to get involved then just get in touch with our Box Office.”

The cast are incredibly excited to take part in the week long run. Macie Barrington (aged 10) from Sutton Coldfield who plays Jack in the show is returning to the stage after appearing in the chorus in the Lichfield Garrick’s Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty.

Macie further added “When I heard that Tim Ford was directing a musical, my application was one of the first to be handed in. I had no idea that I would be asked to play Jack as it is my first acting role but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I literally can’t keep still and I love to dance around and sing. Recently though, my head has been constantly in my script and I have been singing all of the amazing songs from this weird and wonderful play!”

With music by Howard Goodall, the composer of such well-known theme tunes as The Vicar of Dibley and Blackadder, and lyrics by Charles Hart (The Phantom of the Opera), The Dreaming was originally commissioned by the National Youth Music Theatre in 2001 to rave reviews. The show has a distinctly spooky edge, mixed with superb comedy and, of course, as you would expect form Howard Goodall some glorious tunes. It's a time for dreamers....

The Dreaming is playing at the Lichfield Garrick from Monday 31 July to Saturday 5 August with a variety of evening and matinee performances.

Tickets start from £12.50 and can be booked online at www.lichfieldgarrick.com or by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121.
