Did anyone not go to the first Grub Club this week? I think all of Lichfield and the surrounding area braved the cold for the inaugural event, and the rain held off for the entire evening.
We arrived in the Market Square about 6.30, thinking we would be nice and early to the proceedings; how wrong we were. The crowds were already formed and there were queues at every stall, we managed to secure a couple of cocktails and listen to the band for a while.
Unfortunately, the queues didn’t seem to go down and so in the end we decided to pop into McKenzie's for dinner instead. It was a good decision as it was lovely and warm in there, and by the time we left it was clear that we were not the only ones that had the same idea. Hankering for street food I ordered a burger, which wouldn’t be what I’d normally chose, but I’m glad I did as it was delicious, and my hubby had a big bowl of Spaghetti Carbonara and the best Garlic Bread we’ve had in ages.
Although the event was about the street food, after speaking to several friends I think quite a few people decided to eat in local restaurants, so I think it was a winning evening for everyone.
We did pop back into the square for another drink and a quick boogie, and I’m looking forward to next month’s event already. Hopefully it will be a bit warmer, and the organisers are already talking about booking for street food vans to cope with the demand.

I love living in Lichfield, it's easy to support local businesses as we have a wealth of fabulous independent retailers. My real passion is food, not only do I love to cook, but I love to eat out even...
