Beacon Park play area

We have some fabulous places for kids to use around Lichfield, and it's good to see them invested in to create even better, safer places. One of those is in Beacon Park and here is an update from Lichfield DC on what is happening over the summer.

A temporary play zone will be opening at Beacon Park this summer, so children can play away at the city park, while work to create a brand new play area takes place

Beacon Park’s play area is getting the makeover treatment, as part of Lichfield District Council’s and Lichfield City Council’s transformation of Beacon Park, the Garden of Remembrance and Minster Pool & Walk.

Plans for the play area include: a brand new under 5s playground - with covered sandpits and natural play areas, and an older children’s play area - with lots of new equipment such as natural climbing areas and a whirlwind roundabout.

However, because the transformation is taking place this summer, the new play area will not be open in time for the summer holidays.

This is why Lichfield District Council is opening a temporary play zone, next to the main play area, this summer.

The temporary play zone will include: play equipment - such as the wooden train and springy chickens, a bouncy castle, and a sand pit.

Councillor Val Richards, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “Beacon Park has always been one of the favourite destinations for children to visit over the summer holidays. Because we don’t want them to miss out, we will be opening a temporary play zone towards the end of July. We know the new play area will be worth the wait, and hope children enjoy the temporary play zone in the meantime.”

The council’s leisure team will also be holding organised play activities every week day at Beacon Park (starting on 26 July and running every weekday until 3 September), from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

The sessions will be led by play leaders, and will include: parachute and circle games, sports equipment for cricket, football and hockey, and play equipment – such as giant Jenga, and trucks and diggers for fun in the sand.

The leisure and parks teams will also be running activities at Beacon Park over some weekends. These include Mobile Leisure fun with a big inflatable T-Rex and bug hunts.
