LICHFIELD’S auction house is offering free valuations of jewellery, watches and silver in the run-up to Christmas.

Richard Winterton Auctioneers said the valuations – strictly by appointment only on Thursdays at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park – will take place in a Covid-secure environment on December 3, 10 and 17.

Appointments can be booked by calling 01543 406124or emailing office@richardwinterton.co.uk. Virtual valuations via email and other digital methods continue to be available – visit www.richardwinterton.co.uk.

Due to Lichfield’s placement in Tier 3 of Covid regulations, the auction house continues to hold sales online-only behind closed doors.

The family firm’s latest such auction on Monday, November 30, proved another record-breaker, achieving a 93.7 per cent selling rate on 1,042 lots, bringing in an average price per lot of £158.68 with 1,480 people bidding online from all over the world.

“As well as being our biggest-ever one day sale, our November records and the average price per lot in a single day sale were both smashed,” said auctioneer Richard Winterton.

“We are delighted that all our measures and adapted ways of working are working so well for our clients.”

An “Aladdin’s cave” of clocks in Monday’s sale alone made £53,000 and a Rolex Submariner Date – which was uncovered during a pre-second lockdown valuation at The Hub at St Mary’s – sold for £6,000.

A large single stone diamond ring made £4,600 and an antique oil painting by Saint Clair Augustin Mullholland depicting merchants' boats on Venice's Grand Canal sold for £2,700.

Other results included a collection of camera equipment (£1,750), a Victorian burr walnut breakfast table (£1,500), two sets of Pokemon cards (£1,370), collections of political, comic and cinematic postcards (£1,225), a late 19th century musical box (£1,050) and a Belleek Parian figure (£1,000).
