This June, Lichfield District Tourism Association (LDTA) members were treated to a 'stroll around the Gardens of Lichfield’ guided tour, to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of the association.

Green Badge Guide, Susan Baird, took the group of 22 on walk through Lichfield’s parks, green spaces and secret gardens. She stopped at points along the way to explain how the areas came into being, and to tell stories about interesting historical events that took place there.

The tour finished at Erasmus Darwin House, where the group was treated to a light buffet and celebratory cake.

The LDTA began in 1996, when around 20 local people met at the District Council House to talk about working together to attract more visitors to the district. Since then, the tourism association has welcomed more than 100 members, who meet periodically to share ideas about how to boost tourism across the district.

Gerry Arthur, Chairman of LDTA, said: “More than four million people visit the district, enjoying attractions such as Drayton Manor Theme Park, The National Memorial Arboretum, Lichfield Cathedral, Curborough Sprint Course and many more.

“Lichfield District Tourism Association is a valuable resource for our tourism providers. It allows the members to meet, network, and discuss the tourism industry. And, as tourism plays a key role in our local economy, supporting hundreds of businesses and thousands of local jobs, attracting even more visitors has never been as important.”
