We are in for a real treat this weekend at the Lichfield Christmas Festival.

Lichfield District Council’s tourism team, Visit Lichfield, is inviting everyone to Lichfield’s Christmas Festival on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December.

The two-day event will feature fun and entertainment across the city. Lichfield’s Market Square will be full of free festive treats, including face painting, entertainment and two family trails - Rudolph’s Market Trail and Santa’s Shop Window Trail.

On Saturday 10 December, from 10am to 3.30pm, there will be a chance to stock up on goodies at the Lichfield Market on the Market Square, while enjoying a glass of mulled wine and listening to festive music, thanks to Cannock Salvation Army Band, City of Lichfield Concert Band, and Walsall Operatic Society.

Heritage venues across the city are also getting involved in the fun on the Saturday with Christmas Crafts in St Mary’s Church, Erasmus Darwin's Birthday Celebrations at Erasmus Darwin House, and an evening of Christmas music and storytelling at The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum.

On top of this, A Christmas through the Ages guided tour is running on Saturday 10 December at 2pm. The winter walking tour will be filled with festive tales about the city, rounded off with a hot drink and a mince pie at The George Hotel. Tickets cost £4.50 and are available from Lichfield Tourist Information Centre in the Lichfield Garrick or by calling 01543 412112.

On Sunday 11 December, from 10am to 4pm, the annual Lichfield Chamber of Trade and Commerce Christmas Fayre will take place on Lichfield’s Market Square. It will feature crafts, trade and charity stalls. A highlight of the day will be the Lichfield Mysteries performing The Nativity on the Market Square at 2pm.

Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: “The count down to Christmas has started, and the Christmas Festival weekend will be a fantastic way for the whole family to get into the festive spirit and enjoy Christmas-themed activities. We know there will be a very merry atmosphere and lots to do, so make sure you put a date in your diary for Lichfield Christmas Festival.”
