Officially opened by Cllr Bernard Derrick, Vice-Chairman of Lichfield District Council, the Christmas Festival weekend saw entertainment, stalls, and activities take place in and around Lichfield City centre.

On Saturday the Market Square was alive with the sounds of festive music, thanks to the Cannock Salvation Army, Netherstowe Band and Walsall Operatic Society. Santa Claus was also on hand to say ‘ho, ho, ho’ on his sleigh, thanks to Lichfield Round Table.

The Christmas Fayre on the Market Square took place on Sunday, and saw more than 80 local crafts, charity and food stalls selling their festive treats

On the same day, the Lichfield Mysteries presented their version of the Nativity story to the assembled crowd.

Throughout the weekend more than 30 families took part in a Christmas Shop Window trail, searching for the Twelve Days of Christmas baubles that were displayed in some of the city’s shop windows. Around 20 children also enjoyed taking part in the Rudolph trail on the Market Square. Everyone who took part on both the trails won a small lucky dip prize at the end.

The 11th Burton Scouts and Lichfield 1st Scouts spent the weekend keeping the crowds on the Market Square warm with mulled wine and mince pies.

The festivities included events at local attractions, including Carols in Beacon Park, A Georgian Family Christmas and free Christmas crafts at The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum, story telling at Lichfield Heritage Centre, and Erasmus’ birthday celebrations at Erasmus Darwin House.

Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: “The Christmas festival weekend was a huge success, with families enjoying the entertainment and shopping. I am sure it put lots of people in the festive mood. It took a huge amount of organising, and a big thank you must go to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a fantastic event.”
