Carpet cleaner chats for charity

Lichfield resident and local carpet cleaner, Neil Weyham, is on a mission to turn his chat into cash for a good cause.

For the last few years, Neil has been giving up his spare time to be a guest speaker at local voluntary organisations and groups, such as Women’s Institute meetings - and donating any speaking fees to St Giles Hospice, to help with their good work.

There’s a saying that ‘talk is cheap’, but so far it has allowed Neil to donate almost £300 to St Giles hospice each year from his talks  – and as a keen fundraiser Neil wants to be able to raise more.

Neil’s talks include amusing anecdotes from his busy work and social life.  As well as running Cathedral Chem-Dry in Lichfield with his wife Sarah for the last 20 years, Neil also has 5 other jobs. He’s been a Magistrate for almost 5 years, a steward at Aston Villa FC for the last 12 seasons, a steward at Edgbaston cricket ground for the last 11 seasons, worked in Ladbrokes at West Bromwich Albion football club for about 12 seasons and has also been a qualified snooker coach since 1998.

Neil says, “I really enjoy meeting people and talking about my business and hobbies – so it’s great that I can help raise money for a charity that does such good work for the region at the same time. It doesn’t matter what size audience I talk to – I’ve talked to as few as 11, and my largest group so far has been almost 300!"

If you’re a local group who is looking for a guest speaker, Neil can be contacted on 01543 401352 or by following this link on thebestoflichfield.
