Everyone is welcome to join a special sunflower planting event in Lichfield next Tuesday 19 April in support of Ukrainian refugees.

Sunflowers for Ukraine invites you to come along and make an origami plant pot, set sunflowers seeds within it and take your seeds home to grow and display.

The event is in solidarity with the people of Ukraine; millions of whom have fled their homes following the Russian invasion.

The sunflowers signify peace and empathy with all Ukrainian refugees as some begin to arrive in Lichfield District.

The planting event will be held at Lichfield’s Community Garden in Beacon Park on Tuesday from 10am to 12noon.

The cost is £1 per plant pot (compost, paper and seeds provided) and all the money generated will go to the Lichfield Support for Ukraine group.

There is no need to book – just come along.

Councillor Iain Eadie Lichfield District Council’s deputy leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Leisure and Local Plan, said: “Come and join our Parks Team and plant sunflowers in support of Ukrainian refugees.

“This is a super Easter activity for all the family with all proceeds helping refugees arriving in Lichfield district.

“It is also fun and creative and wildlife will benefit too – the seeds in a sunflower’s head are very popular with birds.”
