Tesco’s “Hudl” being one of the most popular Android devices is now vulnerable to recovery due to a bug in it’s core processor. The Hudl in-particular was found to have a flaw which allows hackers to get data saved onto the on-board memory.

‘Ken Munro’ from Pen Test Partners said the following about the Hudl:
“The Hudl was vulnerable due to a known bug in the Rockchip processor.

Using “Free” software, Mr Munro discovered that the flaw in the firmware meant he could read and write data that was stored on it.
He also uncovered data including Wi-Fi Passwords, Browsing History and Site Passwords.

Tesco have said that “Devices returned to the stores have personal data wiped, and advised customers to use data wiping software, on top of completing a factory reset to make sure that all of the information is removed.

Avast have found they were able to pull tens of thousands of photos, text-messages, e-mails and much more from used phones being on eBay that previous owners had thought that they had ‘wiped’ clean.

If in future, you ever try to sell or dispose of your device, we recommend you enable encryption on your device and apply a factory reset before-hand.
This feature has been available on Android for years.
