Mark Farrelly's hit solo show, Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope arrives at the Lichfield Garrick on Friday 19 January following an off-West End season.
Immortalised by John Hurt in The Naked Civil Servant, Quentin Crisp was one of the most memorable figures of the twentieth century. Flamboyantly gay as early as the 1930s, Quentin spent decades being beaten up on London's streets, but stayed resolute to his true self.
Naked Hope depicts Quentin at two phases of his extraordinary life: alone in his Chelsea flat in the 1960s, and thirty years later, performing his legendary An Evening with Quentin Crisp in New York. Packed with gems on everything from cleaning (“Don’t bother…after the first four years the dirt won’t get any worse”) to marriage (“Is there life after marriage? The answer is no”), Naked Hope is a glorious celebration of the urgent necessity to be yourself.
Mark Farrelly recently appeared at The Rialto in his other hit solo show, The Silence of Snow: The Life of Patrick Hamilton. His West End credits include Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? opposite Matthew Kelly, originally produced by the Garrick Rep Company. He is directed by the renowned EastEnders star Linda Marlowe, who has won awards for her own solo work such as Berkoff’s Women.
