Lichfield District Council is asking anyone who is planning a project to improve Handsacre to apply for a slice of £37,733 section 106 funding.

The money is only available for capital projects – such as improving a village hall or buying park benches. It cannot be spent on revenue projects, which includes the cost of running an event or a venue.

The district council secured the pot of funding from the development of 14 houses on the site of the former Handsacre service station.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Development Services, said: “We’re delighted to offer this funding to support projects in Handsacre, and we’re looking forward to receiving the applications.

“When allocating section 106 money, among other factors, we look at whether the projects support our priorities. These include making public spaces cleaner and greener, initiatives that will lead to new or better community facilities, projects that will improve community safety, and schemes that enhance the local environment – such as new street design.“

The applications will be assessed by a team at the district council, before the final funding decisions are made by Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet.

If you are interested in applying for some funding, please contact Asmita Kathrani on 01543 308149 or email asmita.kathrani@lichfielddc.gov.uk to discuss your ideas before Christmas 2011.
