Free festive parking in Lichfield city centre

Christmas shoppers and visitors to Lichfield will be able to park for free in district council run car parks over the festive period.

In a bid to support local retailers and businesses, Lichfield District Council is running a festive offer and will not be charging anyone to park in its city centre car parks.

The offer, which is running between 12 December 2020 and 3 January 2021, will apply to all but two of the car parks in Lichfield that are run by the council, including its short and long-stay facilities.

Due to the operating arrangements of Backcester Lane and Gresley Row car parks, they will not be included in the offer.

Councillor Liz Little, Cabinet Member for Major Projects & Economic Development, said: “I am delighted we will be opening up most of our city centre car parks for free to help support local shops and businesses in the run up to Christmas.

“I hope it encourages more people to ‘love local’ and to stock up on their gifts and festive food at a local business.

“However, it’s really important to continue to follow the hands, face and space rules to stop the spread of coronavirus.

“This includes wearing a face covering unless you are exempt, washing your hand and using hand gel when out and about, and keeping at a safe distance to others when shopping or queuing.”

Car parking charges do not apply to district council run car parks beyond the city centre, including in Burntwood.
