Headteacher Susan Hannam said: “I am so proud of this year group.  They have shown great resilience and determination in the face of unprecedented challenges and I am thrilled that their efforts have been rewarded.  I look forward to seeing these hardworking students continue to flourish in our Sixth Form.”

Deputy Head Andrew Harrison added: “These excellent results are testimony to the dedication and positive approach of our students and the professionalism of our staff.  As a non-selective school, we offer a bespoke curriculum designed to enable students to grow in confidence and maturity, whilst providing the knowledge and skills needed for their next challenge.  Their hard work and the school’s commitment to continuing lessons as normal, albeit online, throughout lockdowns has produced results in line with pre-pandemic outcomes.”

84% of students achieved top grades (9-7, Distinction or Merit) and 91% of students gained at least 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4.  Demonstrating the value of a broad curriculum, students gained grade 9 in Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Geography, History, Religious Education, Computer Science, Business Studies, Design & Technology, Art and Music.

Students of GCSE French achieved outstanding results with all being awarded 9-7 (A** to A) grades.  The performance of BTEC Music Technology students was similarly brilliant, with 71% awarded a Distinction while the remaining students all achieved a Merit.

There were some remarkable individual achievements, in contrast to the nation-wide reduction in top grades being awarded:

  • Georgina Grant achieved nine Grade 9 GCSEs.
  • Ella Jiggins was awarded eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8.
  • Lucy Hannam achieved seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s.
  • Martha Wilkes was awarded six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s.
  • Thomas Willimott achieved four Grade 9s and four Grade 8s.
