A Storied History of Faith and Resilience

Lichfield’s Christian story began around 659 AD, when Bishop Chad established the first church on this sacred site. It was consecrated around 700 AD, making it one of the UK’s earliest centres of worship — and it remains so to this day .

Did you know? The cathedral is the only medieval English cathedral with three spires, affectionately known as the “Ladies of the Vale”. This unique feature makes it instantly recognisable, rising 77 m at the central spire and two west spires about 58 m high.

Fun Facts & Hidden Treasures
