At a meeting of Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet on Tuesday 15 May, it was agreed that £50,000 of government High Street Innovation funding should be invested in Lichfield City centre.

The decision followed on from the news in early April that Lichfield District Council had received £100,000 funding, as part of the government's range of measures to tackle the decline of British high streets under the new Portas Plus Plan.

From street entertainers and enhanced markets, through to a temporary city centre visitor attraction, the Lichfield City Centre Coordination Group is finalising plans for how the money could be spent. The ideas will be considered by the group in late May and final decisions will be made in mid-June.

Traders in Burntwood will also be given the chance to bid for some of the High Street Innovation Fund money. Traders will be invited to attend a workshop soon to come up with ideas for how a share of the High Street Innovation Fund could help to boost local footfall and sales.
