To celebrate the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, Lichfield District Council’s Chasewater rangers are holding their very own Great Boat Race on Saturday 26 March, from 11am to 4pm.

The event will feature time trials in paddle boats around Chasewater's boating pool. These will be judged in four categories: age 7 and under (with an adult), age 8 to 10, age 11 to 13, and age 14 and over.

The race circuit will take competitors around Chasewater Curve, through Bobbing Bend, down the Speedy Straight, and over the finish line at Rangers’ Reach.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “This event will be a fun way to celebrate the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, which is taking place on the same day on the River Thames. Any child of a school age can enter, and no boating experience is needed. If you want to practise your paddling skills in the lead up to the race, the paddle boats are available from Chasewater Country Park’s boat shed to hire for £2 a session.”

The prizes and certificates will be presented at 4.15pm on the same day, but can also be collected from the Rangers’ Office at a later date. The champions from each of the categories will win a pass to play on the country park's go-karts, crazy golf, connect 4 and paddle boats for free every Sunday in April.

Entry to the race costs 50p and everyone who takes part will get a lollipop.
