Known as ‘I Am Team GB’, Lichfield will be joining in the nationwide celebrations by offering free sports activities to all.

From 27th – 29th August, Lichfield District Council will be running an open weekend across its three leisure centres, Friary Grange, King Edward VI and Burntwood.

It’s being hosted to get more people active in the local community and to celebrate Team GB’s achievements in the Rio 2016 Games.

The event is part of I Am Team GB - a nationwide campaign that has inspired thousands of UK clubs and leisure centres to open their doors to new participants.

The council’s three leisure centres will open their doors and offer free activities during their opening hours over the Bank Holiday weekend (King Edwards will be closed on Monday 29th August.)

From free tennis, table tennis, badminton and squash, to the free use of synthetic football pitches and basketball courts, there will be lots to try, with places being offered on a first come first served basis.

There will also be free swimming over at Friary Grange and Burntwood leisure centres, during public swimming times.

You can book on the day or just pop in to any of the leisure centres and decide what you want to do from all of the free activities on offer, including tennis, football and swimming.

It’s the perfect way to get kids active too, so while you’re at the Lichfield Food Festival, which happens to be the same weekend, kids can enjoy the many sporting activities on offer and be inspired by the sporting success the country has achieved.
