CATHEDRAL SCHOOL STUDENTS THRILLED BY EXCELLENT A LEVEL RESULTS

Headteacher Susan Hannam said: “I am incredibly proud of our students. These marvellous results demonstrate their resilience in the face of an education disrupted by the pandemic and we must remember that these are the first public examinations they have taken. These exceptional sixth formers have risen to all challenges that have been presented to them and have demonstrated outstanding leadership to our younger pupils throughout the last two years. I couldn’t be more delighted for these youngsters, or more thankful to their teachers.”

Deputy Head, Andrew Harrison, added: “This year’s A Level and BTEC results recognise our commitment to enable all our students to achieve their academic potential. In the context of Ofqual awarding far fewer top grades this year, we are delighted that 31% of grades were A* or A, while 64% of grades were A*-B, and the school’s record of a 100% pass rate was maintained.”

There were some outstanding results achieved by individuals. Benjamin White A*A*A*A (Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry) will now study Theoretical Physics at Birmingham University. Harry Stephens A*A*A* (Philosophy & Ethics, Law, Criminology) will also be going to Birmingham University to study Law. Evie Karagkevrekis achieved A*A*A (Biology, History, English Lit) plus A* in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is heading to Durham University to study Law. Henry Smith A*A A (History, Politics, English Lit) will study Politics at Exeter University and Andrew Loveland who achieved A A A (Computing, Maths, Physics) is moving on to a degree apprenticeship with Amazon in cybersecurity.

In addition to impressive academic results, the Cathedral School students have benefited from a wonderful array of co-curricular experiences, achieving admirable success across a full range of sporting, cultural and artistic activities and national competitions. Susan Hannam added: “Cathedral School students leave us prepared for university, for the workplace and for later life. While grades are important, I am most proud of the compassion they have for friends and family, their confidence for their careers, and for their determination to make a positive difference in the world.”
