It's that time of year when you may need car hire or vehicle rental for holidays, weddings, business and more and we've put together 10 top tips for hiring a car:
Car hire rates may rise during peak holiday periods, book early to avoid rising costs;
Ensure you check the terms and conditions of your car hire agreement;
Check the level of insurance cover is appropriate and what you will have to pay i.e. the excess should you need to make a claim;
Consider any extra insurance policies offered by the car hire company, it may even be cheaper to purchase insurance from a specialist insurance firm;
If you are likely to need car hire for more than 14 days, consider taking out a yearly insurance policy.
Check how much deposit you need to pay before you book and consider paying by credit card in the event that you are unhappy with your car rental service;
Read the car rental agreement thoroughly before you sign.
When you collect the car, check it over for scratches, marks and dents and take note of the fuel level. It is also worth checking the tyres, lights, seat belts, windscreen wipers, brakes and petrol cap.
Should any damage occur whilst you have the car, record all marks and take photographs - a member of staff should sign this paperwork and you must keep copies in a safe place to cover you should the company come back to you in the future;
Return the car on time and with a full tank of fuel - if you don't you may incur a penalty.
