If you go to see a play on April 23rd, you will be helping to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday.

As one of England’s greatest poets and dramatists, thousands of people celebrate National Shakespeare Day every year and this year National Go to A Play Day are trying to encourage the nation to embrace local theatre on Shakespeare’s birthday as a present to him.

Theatres are also asked to join in and submit their audience figures for the day.

So what’s on at Lichfield Garrick Theatre on 23rd April?

Satin n Steel

In the perfect surroundings of the studio, the audience is transported into the glitzy world of variety nights, ocean cruises and working men's clubs.

When Karaoke singer Teena White meets verteran pro Vince Steel, both their lives are set to change. Together, they form a duo ‘Satin ‘n' Steel' and a journey of clubs and cruises re-ignites Vince's flagging career.

As Teena's dreams of fame and fortune seem on the verge of reality though, a dark secret threatens to burst the showbiz bubble for good.

This bitter sweet comedy mixes real emotional drama with a mix of classic tunes, including Daydream Believer, Time after Time, Islands in The Stream, Don't Go Breaking My Heart and The Wind Beneath My Wings.

The King and I – an operatic production

The show delights audiences with the well-known songs including; Getting to Know, You Shall We Dance?, I Whistle a Happy Tune, March of the Siamese Children and countless others.

It tells the tale of the strong willed widowed English teacher who travels to Siam in the 1860s to be a governess to the many children of the King.

Are you going to stay in and watch the soaps?  Or will you join in and embrace your local theatre?
