Local agencies, groups and volunteers will be welcoming in the festive season by taking part in a spectacular lantern parade through Burntwood this December.
Led by Burntwood Rotary Club’s Santa, the parade will feature lanterns of all shapes and sizes. It will set off from the new location of Cherry Close Youth Centre at 6.30pm and then make its way around local streets.
The parade will return to Burntwood Leisure Centre where there will be a winter market in the sports hall and an ice rink on the grounds.
The winter market will include craft stalls, face painting and refreshments. Skating on the ice rink will cost £2 for adults and £1 for children.
Councillor Helen Fisher, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Taking part in the parade or seeing it on its way around Burntwood will be a great way to get into the Christmas spirit, especially as Santa will be leading the procession. The winter market will be a good opportunity to browse stalls and chat to friends, and I am sure everyone will enjoy the chance to have a go at ice skating. A big thank you must once again go to everyone who is helping to organise this wonderful community event.”
The Burntwood Christmas Lantern Parade is supported by Lichfield District Council, Staffordshire County Council, HomeZone Living, Forward Action Burntwood, Burntwood Leisure Centre, Burntwood Community and Learning Partnership, Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, Staffordshire Young People’s Service, B-Arts, Burntwood Town Council, Lichfield and District CVS, and lots of volunteers.
Ian Parry, Deputy County Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added: “Burntwood’s Christmas lantern parade is a great way for the community to come together, and I know it will be a night to remember.”
Anyone wishing to join in the parade is asked to park at Burntwood Leisure Centre and make their way to Cherry Close Youth Centre for 6pm.
