LICHFIELD’S auctioneer has teamed up with TV auctions expert Christina Trevanion (Antiques Road TripBargain Hunt) and restoration maestro Will Kirk (The Repair ShopMorning Live) for brand new BBC show The Travelling Auctioneers.

The programme sees Will and Christina sift through a family home in each episode, identifying items which they believe will sell at auction, with Will bringing his craft and restoration skills to bring new life to neglected treasures.

Next week they will be coming to Staffordshire, for a special auction on Thursday, November 4, at Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent.

Richard Winterton Auctioneers of Lichfield and Tamworth is providing the logistics and staff for the special auction, which will see Christina Trevanion yielding the gavel on the day.

Bidders will be vying for dozens of special lots selected and restored by Christina and Will as part of the new show, which aims to unearth hidden gems and turn unwanted items into winning lots.

Viewing of lots in Thursday’s auction takes place at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park, WS13 8NF, by appointment only – call 01543 406124 or email office@richardwinterton.co.uk.

Richard Winterton said: “We are delighted to be working with Will, Christina and the BBC for The Travelling Auctioneers.

“Uncovering hidden treasures is absolutely what we are about so to be taking part in this innovative new series is a perfect fit for us.

“The sale features many very interesting lots and I am sure it will be a big hit with bidders.”

Included in the sale are collectables ranging from a USA-made 2004 Fender Stratocaster Deluxe and 22 lots of Star Wars Lego to dolls, jewellery and furniture.

Also featuring are Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson bookends – each with three of his famous carved mice – plus Mouseman candlesticks and cheeseboard.

The sale starts at 12 noon on Thursday, November 4, at Middleport Pottery, Port Street, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 3PE.

Members of the public are welcome to attend. Filming will take place following Covid-19 protocols and anyone wishing to join the auction event should arrive by 11.45am.

All payments and collections will also be from The Lichfield Auction Centre by appointment only.

The Winterton name has been synonymous with auctioneering across Staffordshire for seven generations since 1864, with early beginnings at Lichfield’s former Smithfield livestock market.

The family firm is based at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Fradley Park, and has just opened a new auction house in Church Street in the neighbouring Staffordshire town of Tamworth.

The Travelling Auctioneers is being produced for the BBC by STV Studios – makers of Antiques Road Trip and The Yorkshire Auction House – and will be shown on BBC One next year.
