You could also enjoy the great tradition of the patriotic British Proms concert seated within the medieval building itself with more tickets now available. The concert will be raising funds for the Cathedral’s East End Appeal.

The concert, which sees the Lichfield Cathedral community and the Garrick Theatre working together for the first time, will celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the Accession to the throne of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and will take place both in and outside Lichfield Cathedral. John Sergeant will be the guest presenter of this celebratory evening.

The exciting programme of music will include coronation anthems Zadok the Priest and I Was Glad, together with film footage plus live cameras relaying images of the concert throughout the Cathedral and excerpts from the Queen’s Coronation in Westminster Abbey in 1953.  The concert will conclude with the traditional flag-waving ‘Last Night of the Proms’ favourites Rule Britannia, Nimrod, Sea Songs, Jerusalem, I Vow to Thee my Country, and Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 – Land of Hope and Glory.

Adrian Jackson, Lichfield Garrick’s Artistic and Executive Director commented:

“The Jubilee Proms concert in Lichfield Cathedral was always set to be a tremendously popular evening, but to sell out so quickly and have to release even more seats is just superb. Not only will there be a remarkable atmosphere both in and around the Cathedral, but we are now guaranteed to raise considerable charitable funds for the Cathedral’s East End Appeal”.

The evening will feature the combined talents of the Cathedral’s resident Darwin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra together with the City Concert Orchestra (leaders Alex Laing and Robert Atchison). This debut pairing will be led by four local conductors: husband and wife team, Ben and Cathy Lamb, Directors of Music at Lichfield Cathedral, Artistic & Executive Director of Lichfield Garrick Adrian Jackson and Cathedral Organist Martyn Rawles. The concert will also feature Soprano Elizabeth MacDonald, the Lichfield Cathedral Choir and the Lichfield Cathedral Chamber Choir.
