Exercise:

Walking your dog is a no-brainer. They require it, and it’s a way for you to bond with your dog. It’s an all-around rewarding way to get both you and your dog in top physical condition.

Socialising:

Dogs can be a great way for you to meet new people; not only with other dog owners, but with anyone. How many times have you seen a complete stranger stroke your dog as if it were their own? Too many! Moments like these and many others could be the start of a life-long friendship.

Stress relief:

Playing with a dog can bump up levels of dopamine, which boosts your mood. But if you aren’t feeling energetic, stroking a dog can be just as effective. Touch and movement help lower your blood pressure and can help you to calm down, as well as feel less stressed. Plus, doesn’t stroking fur just feel sensational?

Companionship:

Being lonely is a horrible thing, so owning a dog is beneficial for anyone in that situation. Going back to the social benefits of being a dog owner, it really can help build self-confidence and meet new people. Not only does having a dog to care for make you feel wanted and needed, in return, you get a loyal friend who thinks the world of you!

Just all-around happiness:

Dogs are happy creatures. They smile, waggle their tails and jump all over the place. They say another one’s positive attitude transfers onto others – and it’s true! Not just with humans, but with animals too. Doesn’t seeing a huge grin on a dog make you smile?

Of course it’s important to make sure your dog’s health is up to scratch. If it isn’t, you won’t get any of what we just talked about!

The team at Pool House Veterinary have their own dog ward, so you know you’re in good hands.
