Explore the new world

Visited the Arboretum at the war memorial gardens today. What brought me was the Wild Rumpus, Explore the New World exhibition.

It’s a marvellous way of discovering the arboretum and grounds to pay respect to our heroes in a contemplative way and the thoughtful art installation complements the reverence of the memorials. It engages young people and adults like never before through a symphony of colours, sounds and sensory stimuli. The legacy of our fallen brothers and sisters must never be forgotten and Wild Rumpus have achieved the tone through the Remembrance section, the dreams area likewise reminds us that our dreams can be realised because they gave their today for our tomorrow. The sanctuary is the perfect place to think about the glorious dead in a safe and relaxing space. Utopia is an imagined place where everything is perfect. I reflected on my favourite place, the Beach at Talacre in North Wales and then remembered my Father’s day on the beach at Dunkirk where he was dodging Nazi sniper bullets on his 18th birthday or in Normandy when he was in the first wave on Dday 1944. I left relaxed but grateful that I could enjoy my day on the beach because of their day on those beaches.

Special thanks to Josh, Peter (“Ging”) and Stephanie and all the other staff, veterans and volunteers for their excellent contribution to a first class visitor experience.

Really enjoyed this visit. Much to see and really friendly, helpful staff. 10-50 remembrance service was great, shop is well stocked and the restaurant great value. We went on a really wet, miserable day so will try again on a drier day in order to make the most of the day there.

It is a beautiful, peaceful place.<br>The day we were there was very rainy. So we took the Land Train Tour, which allowed us to see some of the monuments.

Five of us visited the Arboretum this week, having booked an afternoon tour with cream tea. What an amazing afternoon, in spite of the inclement weather. Our guide, Tony M spent at least an hour and a half driving us round the immaculate grounds in a covered buggy. We visited many memorials where he explained in detail the history and meanings of each one and future plans. We then had a lovely cream tea in the restaurant when Tony described some of the memorials we had missed because we ran out of time. An excellent afternoon, which we hope to repeat. Thank you Tony.

I really feel everyone should visit here at least once. It gives perspective to the sacrifices which have been made and continue to be made so we are able to live the lives we lead. Having said that, the site is vast with hundreds of monuments and new features are constantly being added so no one single visit will ever be enough. Exceptionally moving and humbling.

A most enjoyable visit despite the rain. The volunteers could have not been more friendly and helpful. Because of the rain we opted for the land train and buggy trip so did not do a great deal of walking. Which means we will have to visit again to see those areas we missed yesterday. A very moving experience.
The coffee shop and restaurant were very good and a lot cheaper than Kew Gardens.
