So how do you get more referrals?

  • Word of mouth - a simple phone call or note to acknowledge what they have done will have enormous impact
  • Offer a Guarantee - Allay the fears of any potential clients by offering a satisfaction guarantee
  • Ask for Referrals - ask at the point of delivery when customers are feeling most euphoric about your product or service
  • Ask in Writing - expand your referral process - at the end of your printed material, emails and website say "we appreciate referrals" to remind your customers that you like referred business
  • Send Referral Letters - write to clients and ask them to refer a new customer to you.  Tell them that you consider them to be one of your best clients and that you would like to find other quality clients just like them.  Strengthen further by offering an incentive for referrals.
  • Create a Referral Form - include it in your mail-shots, newsletters, ezine, and post it on your website.  'who do you know who would benefit from..?  'who do you know who needs help with...?
  • Reward Customers For Referrals - but do your sums before you begin a reward system.
  • Offer A 'Finders Fee' - if your budget can take it offer a set fee or a percentage off next purchase.
  • Offer Discounts for Referrals - on future purchases to those who refer your company to others.
  • Swap Referrals - set up a system to swap referrals with businesses you deal with.  Offer to send referrals to them, and vice versa.
  • Swap Referrals with Rivals - pass jobs or contracts your company can't handle and ask competitor to do same in return.
  • Remind Your Suppliers - send out samples of your work to remind them of what you do.
  • Bring-A-Friend Event - invite your best clients to an event at your premises and ask them to bring along a friend (include on the invite a list of the types of clients you help which helps them to know who to bring with them)
  • Use Your Website As A Referral Tool - 'click here to earn cash' button with a link through to a page that explains how their referrals will earn them cash rewards
  • Start An Affiliate Programme
  • Query Customers Who Pass up the opportunity to do business with you
  • Train All Your Employees - in the value of referrals and how to get them.  Offer bonuses and rewards
  • Track Referrals - so you know what works and what doesn't
