Concordia Theatre Shortlisted for People of the Year Human Rights Award 2010

Concordia Theatre in Hinckley, Leicestershire have been shortlisted for the People of the Year Human Rights Award (Accessibility Category). This is the largest disability rights award in Europe and the theatre submitted an entry following the extensive works undertaken last year, which included the
enhancement of facilities for their wheelchair and less ambulant patrons throughout the public areas of the theatre.

The theatre is nominated for the 'Shaw Trust Accessibility Provider of the Year Award', along with:

  • Aerobility
  • Arsenal FC's Disability Liaison Team
  • Essex County Council, Inclusive Communication Essex (Ice)
  • Intercontinental Hotel Group (Ihg)
  • Legoland Windsor
  • Switchover Help Scheme

Publicity Officer Judy Peatfield said "We are up against some very big and well funded organisations but we are immensely proud that the efforts of our volunteers, members and so many other people within the Borough who have helped us to achieve the recent and fantastic re-development work at Concordia Theatre have been recognised".

The results of the Accessibility Category for the "Radar People Of The Year Human Rights Awards 2010" will be unveiled on Monday 29th November 2010 in London.
