To celebrate the completion of the redevelopment work the theatre will be having an open day for the public that will align with the Borough’s Heritage Weekend on Saturday the 12th September 2009 (10.00a.m. – 4.00 p.m.) and the day’s events at the theatre will be opened by Bill Maynard who will be cutting the ribbon at 10.00 a.m.

If you are interested in seeing more then the theatre will be conducting guided tours that will take place throughout the day. The tours will provide you with an opportunity to view all the operations of the theatre and take a look behind the scenes.  For example, you will be able to see a set installed on stage; browse through the wardrobe; see theatrical makeup artistes in action; meet the guys who build the fantastic sets in the theatre workshop and find out how the lighting and sound work and the special effects are brought to the stage and much more.

During the tours members of some of the theatre societies will be present to promote their productions and work.

Concordia Theatre would like to extend a very warm welcome to everybody to come along and take this opportunity to see just how your local theatre works and be one of the first to view the superb redevelopment that has taken place.  The development includes a new extension to the theatre to house the two 13 person lifts and a new staircase. The old main concrete staircase having been removed to create two extensive open foyer areas that have been decorated and fitted-out to a very high standard including a new point of sale area for ice cream sales and interval drinks has been installed. New carpeting has been laid and the lighting re-designed to give a twenty first century effect that is truly phenomenal.

In addition to the general improvement of the facilities the theatre has also improved the ease of access for our less ambulant patrons and to make the theatre a wheelchair friendly environment. This means that two wheelchair patrons can be accommodated at each performance in the main auditorium plus lift and ramp facilities are available throughout the theatre.
