Women of Achievement Awards
10th November 2008

I would like to tell you how proud I am of my wife Gillian being nominated for a Sue Ryder Woman of Achievement Award. Gill has been nominated in the category Care/Community. There are three other categories, Education, Enterprise and Art/Recreation as well as the overall Award for Outstanding Achievement. Gill has been nomiated for her contribution to Girl Guiding.

Gill is the Divisional and District Commissioner for the Henley area as well as running Henley Guides. Gill spends hours on helping to run Guides in the Henley area often with many unseen hours spent on adminsitration and organisation. She has around 400 guides and brownies under her leadership and these groups could not meet without her doing her job. Guides is volutary and unpaid. However Gill really enjoys her role, most of the time, and gets a real buzz from her Tuesday meeting in Henley. Our phone is always ringing with enquiries about joining the waiting list for Brownies.

Sue Ryder will hold the awards ceremony at Phyllis Court on 20th November with tickets costing £80 each. Gill has also been on BBC Radio Oxford today talking about her role in Guiding as well as the article in the Hneley Standard last week.
