Geraldine Peers, BBC Oxford newsreader and patron of Oxfordshire children’s grief support charity SeeSaw, opens The Springs annual family charity fundraising event on Saturday 11 September at 1pm.

This free event takes place in the picturesque grounds of The Springs Hotel and Golf Club in Wallingford, home to one of the few natural springs on the Thames and former business venture of Ian Gillan, lead singer of the 70’s rock band Deep Purple.

This family day of fun is set to be a flagship fundraiser for the Oxfordshire based charity SeeSaw who depends on the generosity of Oxfordshire families and businesses to continue their award-winning support following a death in the family.  Being a children’s charity, events such as this which emphasize a child’s need to have fun alongside their grief are especially important.  SeeSaw’s director, Rosie Nicol-Harper says “we’re thrilled that such a prestigious venue as The Springs has chosen to support us this year to boost much needed funds for our work with local children”.

The main arena features key performances from Mr Alexander’s Travelling Show and dance troop messy jam along with falconry displays from one of Oxfordshire’s finest, Ray Prior. But be sure to stay on guard as Wolly the Clown mingles in the crowd!

If the big stage is not for you then, fringe entertainment includes bouncy castles, a merry go round, face painting, splat the rat and many other summer fair family favourites. So lots of fun-to-be-had, but that aside there is a deeper message to be conveyed this fundraising event through a photographic exhibition exploring the journey of grief through the eyes of a child; moving work recommended for parents and carers.

Once, the family is done with the fun there’s a market place with an exceptional offering of local produce, ceramics, sweets, toys, craft and much much more. Then food glorious food, the Springs have a team who know how to do that; so make your way to the big barbeque grill where you can feed the family and reflect on a fun family day out for what we think you will agree is a very, very worthwhile cause.
