Easter Events At The River & Rowing Museum This April
Children Go Free!


23 March 2010: Discover the wildlife habitats of the real Ratty, Toad, Mole and Badger from Wind in the Willows; create volcanic eruptions; cast your own sporting medals and trophies and join a giant Quack Attack doing the dabbling dance! These are just a few of the exciting events and activities at the River & Rowing Museum (rrm.co.uk) this Easter holiday.

Parents and children can also enjoy the Museum's other galleries and exhibitions including Wind in the Willows, as well as the Museum shop and terrace café - an ideal place to relax in the Museum's unique riverside setting. Children go FREE! (One child free with each paying adult)
Visitors can enjoy the Museum all year round for the price of just one ticket. Entrance to the River & Rowing Museum is just £7.50 for adults and £5.50 for children. Each admission ticket provides FREE, unlimited entry to the Museum for 12 months from the date of the original purchase. Children three and under go free.

CURRENT EXHIBITIONS

Our Sporting Life - Henley
Kirkham Gallery
13 March – 11 July 2010
A unique community exhibition celebrating the history and diversity of Henley’s sporting life through its clubs and organisations. It showcases the sporting moments, heroes, objects, photographs and experiences that have inspired the people of Henley. The exhibition also looks towards the 2012 London Olympics and ask the question 'What does sport mean to you?' with space dedicated for Museum visitors to include their own memories and objects. There will also be sports taster sessions at the Museum on 25 April, 23 May & 20 June 2010. More details will be announced on rrm.co.uk.

We’ve teamed up with the Environment Agency to tell you the real stories of people who live and work on the river. See our interactive flood wall of pictures and fascinating facts and find out if you live in a flood risk area.  

Henley-on-Thames: town, trade and river
The Wall
4 December 2009 – 18 April 2010
Based on a new book about Henley and the Thames by Simon Townley, produced by the Victoria County History as part of its England’s Past for Everyone project. This exhibition looks at the fascinating ways in which the project has uncovered Henley’s past and some of the key themes that have emerged from its Medieval origins to the present day.

From Riverbank to Wild Wood
Wednesday 7 April
10.30am – 4pm (drop-in anytime)
Discover the wildlife habitats of the real Ratty, Toad, Mole and Badger from Wind in the Willows.   Meet animals rescued by Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue, explore underwater habitats with Hi-Tech Wild Trek, make a dragonfly and a bird dart and lots of other activities with the RSPB, enjoy a tour of Ratty’s Refuge garden, and find out more about animal habitats in our fun gallery activity.

Majestic Medals
Tuesday 6 April
10.30am – 12.30pm
Be inspired by our collection of sporting medals and trophies. Make some of your own by using printing and casting techniques. Who will you award them to?
Age 4-7 £8.50

Action Painting
Thursday 8 April
10.30am – 12.30pm
How do you suggest movement and dynamism in your painting? Watch clips of rowing championships and learn techniques for drawing, painting and printing action packed pictures.

Quack Attack!
Tuesday 13 April
10.30am – 12.30pm
Be a duck for the morning and find out all about them. Make a duck hat, cardboard wings and a model nest with a duck on it. Then have a giant Quack Attack doing the dabbling dance.

Taylor Tug’s Easter Holiday Happening
Wednesday 14 April
11am – 12.30pm
Join Taylor Tug to paint, play and make all sorts of things to celebrate spring at the Museum. An interactive session for parents and carers to enjoy with their children.

Volcano…Loads of Lava
Thursday 15 April
10.30am – 12.30pm
Visit the Henley Gallery to look at an amazing Roman pot found near Hambleden. Then find out what happened in Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Make a model volcano, a scraperboard picture of volcanic eruptions, and handle some real Roman artefacts.

Guided Tours of Ratty’s Refuge
The following Fridays at 11.30am: April 9, May 21, June 4, June 18.
30 minute tours of Ratty’s Refuge garden and Mill Meadows with Henley Wildlife Group. Designed for adults but children are welcome.
