12th April 2010
... Comments

Guildford Borough Council is reminding the town’s residents not to miss out on their opportunity to vote at the forthcoming General Election – taking place on Thursday 6 May.

To make sure you get your vote, you must apply to the council’s electoral services team by the following deadlines:

-          Postal vote applications, amendments and cancellations: Tuesday 20 April.

-          Applications to be included on the electoral register to be used at the General Election: Tuesday 20 April.

-          Proxy vote applications: Tuesday 27 April.

Lynda Murlewski, electoral services manager, Guildford Borough Council, says:

"It is important that residents contact us as soon as possible if they need to change their details on the electoral register, apply for or change an existing postal or proxy vote.  Postal voting is available to all Guildford residents on the electoral register.  It is particularly useful to those people who find getting to their polling station difficult, or residents who may be on holiday on polling day.  You do not have to give a reason for requesting a postal vote, but we will ask for your date of birth and signature to make sure your ballot is genuine when it is returned."

For further information and to apply for your postal or proxy vote or update your details on the electoral register call 01483 444115 or visit www.guildford.gov.uk/elections
