Activzone Gym Campaigning to Remove VAT For Gym Members

The increase to public health will help alleviate NHS burden whilst placing the local gym on an equal footing with authority leisure centres who do not pay VAT.

Gym owners are angry: on the one hand the repeated message is that an increase in exercise and healthier living is vital for the UK as a whole and that supporting local business is vital for the economy yet at the same time authority-run leisure centres do not pay VAT which gives them an unfair competitive advantage.

Sonja Botha, director at Activzone Gym says:

“We speak to our members on a daily basis and it's clear they are worried about the increase of VAT on their membership. As a gym owner I want to be able attract new members, invest in my business and promote a healthier lifestyle within my local community. Time and time again we see members who have improved their health position through exercise and by removing VAT from gym membership we can afford to help more people.”

We are campaigning with www.NoVAT4Gyms.co.uk which has been created to petition government to address this issue. We are encouraging all of our members and the general public to sign the petition which will be delivered to Number 10 on the 1st October 2010.
