The new Mayor of Guildford for 2011/12 is Councillor Terence Patrick.

Councillor Patrick was elected to Guildford Borough Council in 2003 as one of the two members for Send Ward.  He served on the Council's Executive for seven years where his portfolio responsibilities included Guildford Spectrum, sport, health, food safety, parks and countryside and street cleansing.  He has also served on the Council's Local Committee and Standards Committee.

In 2006, as portfolio holder for health, Councillor Patrick was instrumental in a successful campaign to save the Royal Surrey County Hospital from closure.

More recently, he served as the borough councillor with special responsibility for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The theme of his mayoral year will be ‘Celebrate Guildford’.  He says:

"The ancient town of Guildford has a long history and heritage going back over 1500 years and, even in these difficult times, has much to celebrate.  I would be pleased to hear from any group or organisation that would be happy to organise any events to 'Celebrate Guildford' – a borough with a long and distinguished history.”
