Guildford’s businesses buzz

Yesterday I attended the annual Guildford Means Business exhibition.

Having set up my own Surrey-based communications consultancy three years ago, this was my third visit and it felt the busiest and buzziest yet.

I was one of the early birds who kicked things off with the 7.30-9.30am Guildford Business Forum breakfast seminar, covering what’s great about our town and county including the imminent arrival of the 2012 Olympic torch and accompanying activities.

Networking followed and the opportunity to catch up with lots of familiar faces and then it was on to a tour of the stands – around 100 in total.

Guildford really is an eclectic mix of entrepreneurs and established multinationals of which many were present.  From IT specialists projectfive and fitness gurus Phoenix Pro Fitness, to household names such as Mercedez-Benz and Holiday Inn.  And of course, our very own Paul and Sally from thebestofguildford who were co-organisers this year for the first time.

A mixed bag of seminar sessions was also taking place throughout the day covering everything from having fun to speed networking.  I attended one on social media, and while I didn’t learn anything new there were plenty of people around me who clearly did as there was some serious note-taking occurring.

Diary commitments meant I had to leave at lunchtime, but it certainly proved a productive few hours for my business and the buzz in the air stayed with me for the rest of the afternoon.
