The festive season starts early in Guildford with the official town centre Christmas lights switch-on taking place on Thursday 18 November.

Boyzone's Shane Lynch, star of this year’s panto Sleeping Beauty at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, will join Mayor of Guildford Cllr Marsha Moseley and 96.4 Eagle Radio's Peter Gordon on the Guildhall balcony to light up the town at 7pm.

Organised by Guildford Borough Council and Guildford Town Centre Management Group, the theme of the event is Christmas in Literature.

The build-up to the switch-on will include:

-          a Christmas craft market throughout the day;

-          a balcony show and mascots parade from 6pm;

-          entertainment and music from a variety of performers from 4pm;

-          Newfoundland dogs pulling Christmas sleighs;

-          visits by Father Christmas;

-          Christmas face painting.

The switch-on marks the start of late night shopping in the town centre, which will run every Thursday evening until Christmas Eve with seasonal activities on offer for each of these evenings.
