Buy Local – New Market planned for Woking town centre

The Best Of...’s Buy Local campaign is an excellent way to celebrate just how much local independent retailers bring to a town or city. In Woking, while the majority of the shops in the Peacock Centre and Wolsey Walk arcade are chain stores, the market remains the heart of independent trading.

In its current location, Woking market consists of temporary stalls and container units located at the end of Commercial Way near the Victoria Arch but it is set to move to its new site in spring of 2014 when it will be relocated to the covered area between the two shopping centres. The new site will have permanent stalls erected and – as it only has natural light from the ends – a dramatic lighting scheme has been proposed. The new design should make the market more attractive while the relocation would place it right in the town centre; both of these factors working to the market’s advantage. We all want to support independent businesses and the market’s a great place to buy from them. The regeneration of Woking market at the beginning of next year is sure to increase trade and become a new asset for the town centre.
