We came to this wonderful hotel to celebrate our 30th Wedding anniversary. I had read mostly good reviews about the hotel and also had an excellent review from a friend who had stayed here with her husband in June. So I was not put off by some of the negative reviews of this hotel - I am SO glad I wasn't. I think the people who are writing such negative reviews were staying in a different hotel! I can't answer for what it is like in the annexe as we had a Gold room (no 32) in the main house.
We arrived an hour early but Daniel who was on reception greeted us very warmly and invited us to sit out on the verandah with a glass of Prosecco each (which I thought we would have to pay for but when final bill came we realised it had not been charged for - a lovely touch) until the room was ready. When initially shown the room we were a bit disappointed to discover it was not one of the advertised Gold rooms which look very spacious (and in fact were on the floor below us). However, the disappointment was soon gone when we walked out on to the balcony and saw the stunning view down across the beautiful hotel gardens to the sea. The kingsize bed was very comfortable, a fair amount of storage for clothes was available, excellent selection of tea, coffee, drinking chocolate and biscuits which were re-stocked every day. This is also the first hotel we have visited that supply an abundance of little UHT milks although we bought fresh milk and kept it in the fridge. The fridge was stocked with four bottles of water every day and a decanter of sherry was also refilled every day - not normally sherry drinkers we were converted with this one - lovely! TV is low down towards the ground but it didn't cause us a problem watching it. Bathrobes and slippers provided. Good powerful shower. Cleanliness excellent - housekeeping work very hard to keep the rooms looking so clean. The only downside to the bedroom was that there was no airconditioning which we were very surprised at for a four star hotel (first one we have stayed in without it) and our 10 day stay here was in the most beautiful hot weather! A fan was provided but this didnt really do much to alleviate the heat. Talking to Gavin the relations manager he explained that air conditioning has not been installed due to cost but that it is something that is being looked at. Hope that before we visit again that it has been put in.
The food in this hotel is absolutely excellent. Breakfasts were amazing with a vast selection of fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit salad (and no, not out of a tin, it really was fresh), meats, cheeses, pineapple and melon slices, croissants and pastries, yoghurts. On top of that your orders are taken for a cooked breakfast which is freshly cooked for each table so none of this buffet style where you end up with just a warm breakfast. Tea, coffee and toast brought to your table. Service was absolutely excellent, the waiting staff were all very efficient and friendly. I was particularly impressed with Greg who remained very calm when one woman started complaining quite loudly about the cooked breakfast (couldn't see why she was complaining personally!). Apart from her I didn't hear any complaints from residents throughout our stay. We were fortunate to be there for the last hotel barbecue of the season although unforunately it rained on the scheduled day. However it still went ahead in the restaurant and the food was again fantastic. A young singer was there to entertain as well. I was very impressed with Dane, the waiter, who realised our table was a bit wobbly and so found some card to wedge under the table which was really thoughtful of him. It's touches like this that leave a good impression.
On our anniversary day we booked a table for the Rock Garden Steak House attached to the hotel - we were not disappointed! The steaks were cooked to perfection - one medium rare and one well done -both excellent. Atmosphere was lovely in there, the staff were all very friendly, efficient and professional. It was a lovely surprise to also find an anniversary card from all the hotel staff on the table, Again a really lovely touch to add to making this such a fabulous hotel.
In the afternoon we also had tea and cakes from the tea room in the hotel - this is something you MUST do - cakes are divine!
There is a SMALL swimming pool and sauna which we used quite frequently and had to ourselves each time. If you are a serious swimmer this pool wont be enough for you - you can do a length in 6-7 breast strokes. However, it is the warmest pool we have ever been in - it was like a bath! Ample for us but like I say not if you want to swim lengths.
The hotel also has a library (stocked with lots of books) and a lounge plus a room to connect up a laptop and work if wanted. Free WIFI throughout the hotel and connection was always there without any problems. Up in the annexe there is a cinema, which we didnt actually use. However, you only have to book a time with reception and you can view your own DVD's or hotel choice on a big screen.
I have to say we are glad we were in the main house and not in the annexe as it is a fair way from the main hotel up a fairly steep path. Guests need to come down every morning to the main hotel for breakfast which is fine if its sunny but not so good if raining. So go for the main house if you are able.
If you are coming by Condor ferry with your own car it is easy to get to the hotel. Come out of the port, turn left at the roundabout, along the promenade (20mph restriction) to the end and then follow a steep winding road until you get to a mini roundabout at the top. Take a left there and then follow the road along. You will shortly see a sign saying The Venue (which is the annexe) opposite a pub called the Fermain Tavern. If you are stayin in the annexe you can turn in to the car park there and then walk down the path to the hotel reception. If you are staying in the main house you need to drive just past the Venue and then take the next left down a narrow steep hill and then take the next left into the main car park (which is not big). From there you can easily get to reception. Leave your bags in the car until you know which room you have been allocated. There are lifts available.
I know I have said a lot but I just wanted to make sure that you had a good impression of this hotel as quite a few negatives have been said about it. We only ever stay in four star hotels and I have to say this is by far the best one yet (despite no air conditioning!)
Guernsey itself is a wonderful place to stay. So easy to get around it. Lots of lovely places to walk, drive, beaches to sit/swim/surf on. Loads of excellent places to eat and drink. Boat trips over to the islands of Herm, Sark and Alderney (try and get at least one in). Guernsey residents very friendly, helpful and interesting to talk to. Places we visited included the Underground German Hospital, Saumarez Park, Sausmarez Park (yes two different places), all the beaches, walked the cliff paths for miles, ate in several good places including Dix Neuf, La Perla, The Terrace and found numerous excellent coffee/tea rooms around the island. You will not be disappointed in your visit I'm sure and if you stay at The Fermain Valley Hotel you really will NOT be disappointed. Thank you to all the staff for making our wedding anniversary such a wonderful occasion. WE WILL BE BACK!!

We visited Fermain Valley for a short break in September 2016. The hotel and grounds are lovely, with a great terrace and views over Fermain Bay. The staff were very attentive and friendly. There is a shuttle bus but you need to book it early if you want to use it as our experience was that it wasn't available at short notice. However taxi into St Peter Port was between £8 and £10 so not too bad between four persons. There is also a regular bus at the top of the road although we didn't use it.

Our room was in the annex which is a two minute walk through the beautiful garden from the hotel. The room was very well appointed and bed was comfortable. The complimentary decanter of sherry was a nice touch and a great start to wonderful evenings out! (there is also complimentary water, tea and coffee)

Our only gripe was that when we booked we knew we were in an annex but the hotel pics show a wing on the side of the hotel which we thought was the annex. We were therefore surprised that our room was a short walk instead. We booked through booking.com and we were told that their rooms are usually in this annexe so beware if you are expecting to be in the main hotel. All that said, the annex is fine and very comfortable.

Myself and friend stayed at the hotel this weekend, and this exceeded my expectations by far. The staff were very friendly, location is great and the availability of minibus and driver is superb. We were individually collected from and taken to the airport due to different flights and dropped off and collected from the town. Nothing was too much trouble. The only negative is that it was difficult to get a reservation in the Rock Garden restaurant but after preserving we managed to get an early booking. I will definitely be returning to Guernsey next year and hope to stay at this hotel again. We missed out on exploring the gardens but will return to do more sightseeing.

Guernsey is definitely worth a visit, and due to flight times, I would say a minimum 4 day trip would be worthwhile to explore and see everything.

Have just returned from a three night stay with my mother. The hotel is lovely but is set high up a very steep hill above the bay, so is not vey accessible for the less mobile. We stayed in a Gold bedroom which was very nicely furnished and very clean. The only drawback is that the hotel is on the flight path so can be a bit noisy at times if you have the balcony door open. We had a meal in each of the restaurants and they were delicious and served by lovely, friendly and attentive staff. The staff serving in the tea room were also friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel offers a complimentary taxi service which is a good idea as the hotel is about a 5-10 minute drive from St. Peter Port. However at busy times it is almost impossible to get a taxi. The hotel taxi service stops at 6pm. It would be a good idea if the hotel offered an after hours service which I am sure residents would be happy to pay for. The two taxi drivers Paola and another young man whose name I unfortunately did not get were wonderful, extremely friendly and a real credit to the hotel. However our stay was spoilt by the two male receptionists who I found extremely rude, unhelpful and dismissive. On the two occasions I asked if they would mind ordering a taxi for us I was told to walk up the hill to the bus stop at the top of the road, not a good idea for my mother recovering from knee surgery, as all taxi's were busy doing airport runs. On another occasion the male receptionist stopped dealing with me so he could check out a business man without so much of an apology to me. it was amazing how his demeanour changed when dealing with a business man, I wish I had packed my work suit!!! In short the male receptionists were not very approachable or friendly perhaps they should swap roles with the two taxi drivers who were charming. First impressions really do count.

My wife and I returned to our favourite hotel for an overnight stay. Oh it was glorious in a beautiful room with an idyllic view (even though it was raining!). The facilities were excellent and the dinner and breakfast superb! We come here frequently to the lovely tea room and recommend it without hesitation or reservation!

My wife and I stayed here in mid September 2016 for 5 nights. I can only agree with all the positive reviews. We had a lovely break in a really well run hotel. The excellent Rachel organized the whole package for us--flights from Bristol, a Gold room with balcony and sea view and the airport pickup (what a good service this is )and also 2 evening meals included in the Ocean restaurant. This was a really good deal-and worth every penny. we also booked to eat in the Rock garden --where the steak I had was one of the best ever. and the cocktails in both restaurants were the best we have had anywhere--really different and a great variety. My favourite was the Black Martini. Our room was on the 2nd floor-and we were really happy with it--lovely to sit on the balcony in the sunshine before dinner looking towards the sea. The bathroom is not big-but, like the room, spotlessly clean and perfectly functional. Like other reviewers I think the rooms could do with aircon--but we slept with the windows open and loved listening to the breeze and distant sea waves. We spent time on the lovely terrace--more sunbeds needed for the warm days--we could only see 2. The pool was nice and warm, and the staff all friendly and efficient. The free car service to St Peter Port or the airport is a real bonus. Guernsey is beautiful--and we are already planning a return next September--combined with a stay on Alderney too. We did not want to leave this relaxing haven .

Where to begin? What an amazing hotel. From the ease of checking in - to the complimentary Sherry in the room. I loved everything about this hotel and can't compliment it enough. I stayed in the seperate 'block' just above the hotel which is only a few steps through the manacured gardens to get to. The room was spacious, bed was very comfy and the complimentary sherry was a delight! Fresh coffee with a real mini cafetaire for 1 was also a nice touch along with free fruit and biscuits. Half of the block does face a pub across the road which can be a little noisy at nightm and more so at weeeknds, but the windows are fairly sound proof so not a major problem. Power shower was very modern and the free bathroom amenities were very welcome too! We had lunch, breakfast and an afternoon tea at the hotel and all the food was of a very high standard. Sitting outside, for any meal, in the sunshine looking down the valley is simply stunning. Combined with great food, fairly reasonable prices, excellent service and plenty of parking, makes this my favourite hotel in the Channel Islands. I will definitely be back - loved it!

Excellent rooms and delicious dinners although the breakfasts were less scintillating.
The bar suffered from a lack of single malt whiskies, only two mediocre brands being available and no bitter lemon for my wife.
What spoiled our stay, though, was the poor soundproofing of the rooms. Our room was number 10 and the constant footfall noise from the room above was insufferable, as was the noise from the doors to the flight of stairs opposite where people gathered in loud groups. Parking also left a great deal to be desired - we were told to park our Bentley hundreds of yards away up a very steep hill in what appeared to be the car park of another hotel.
