Brilliant understated very tasteful hotel. Staff very attentive to client needs. Excellent choice for breakfast. Bar meals good value for money. Room ample size . On a bus route to the town . Would definitely stay again. Had swimming pool which was a good size together with a steam room. Work was being done near by in the hotel but that did not affect your swim. Also there was a nice walk around the grounds and a small children's play area.

This is a high spec hotel ideal for a quiet and relaxing weekend. A mature party of travellers did not appreciate the fire alarm being set off apparently accidentally by a member of staff at 2.30 in the morning to be followed the next night by not one but two discos at either end of the hotel with loud beat music till midnight. This ruined what should have been a delightful weekend with all amenities in beautiful surroundings. The hotel needs to decide who it is trying to appeal to and not give the impression of a peaceful retreat when this is not the case.

We had two nights at the St. Pierre Park with a group of friends. On arrival, check in took an age as there were only two people checking in a large number of people whilst managers sat in the background failing to come front of house. We had booked an Executive room but when we saw it, it was anything but. Small, too much furniture and strangely, a small balcony that you could hardly get onto as it had a table and one chair that filled the space. Far from the relaxing place for two of you to sit overlooking the gardens! At Reception we were told that all the balconies on the top floor were like this.
Reluctantly, they changed our room and we were given a more pleasant room with a larger balcony on the same floor as Reception so at least you could sit on it. We had a meal in the evening and the food wasn't good. My wife and I had the feta cheese with peppers that was ill thought out with large slices of feta and not much else. For the main course I had steak that was tough and my wife had scallops that were the only scallops that she said she had ever tried to eat that were very gritty and most unpleasant. Pudding couldn't really go wrong as we had chosen cheese.
The highlight of the stay was the breakfasts that were served in a pleasant dining room with plenty of choice and you had the option of freshly cooked omelettes or such things as haddock and poached eggs. No complaints about breakfast except that you often had to stand around waiting to be shown to your table as staff were off doing other things.
The first night we were treated to a fire alarm at approximately 2.30am. I went to Reception to see what was going on and was told we could vacate 'if we wanted to'!! We decided not to and sat on our balcony for the duration as we were on the ground floor and could easily get to the gardens. No-one seemed to know what was going on and it transpired we weren't the only ones who didn't vacate and no roll call was seemingly taken to see who was still in their rooms - lessons to be learnt there.
The second night's buffet meal was better than the first but be warned that wine is £10.50p a large glass for run of the mill Pinot Grigio. Three glasses each came in an £63 - ouch!
The second night saw our function upstairs, another function in the basement and two wedding parties with loud music. This was due to finish at midnight and in fairness it did but I sat on my balcony for the last 20 minutes whilst the music played as there was little point in trying to sleep whilst the discos were in operation. Some of our group said that once the discos finished they were kept awake until about 2.30am as staff cleared one of the wedding venues and set up with tables and chairs for breakfast the next day.
Management needs to take a closer look at detail, bedside lights that weren't working due to blown bulbs, unswept balconies, flowers beds on balconies that look to have woody geraniums and little else from last summer that all gives a feeling of lack of attention to detail.
Would we return to the St. Pierre Park, no and I know that others in our group felt the same. Disappointing and I can't say I was impressed.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Old Government House Hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot remember better service almost anywhere. The staff are all young, enthusiastic and eager to help. A simple call to reception, even for the most outlandish request and there will be a knock on your door in around a minute or less. The bar and gardens are a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the view. There is also a very fine Indian restaurant that makes you feel back in the last days of the Raj. Our favourite though was the bar with a long balcony overlooking the street where you can observe the passers by of this busy town. Our only puzzlement was why the streets were so full of Germans given the history of the island. My brother-in-law claimed it was the bi-product of a flourishing crop of wartime babies, but he is always prone to exaggerate. Anyway, try the OGHH for a most pleasant experience when you want to get away from it all and be treated as a true guest

We have just spent 3 nights at OGH and will certainly go back. The hotel is ideally situated close to the centre of town and the ferries across to the islands, yet it is a peaceful oasis. The food in the restaurant was amazing and I don't think I have ever experienced better service. This really is what a hotel should be like.

The OGH is a fab hotel, very friendly and helpful staff.
The hotel itself is very well kept, clean and the room facilities are very good.
If you have any mobility issues make sure you ask ask for an easily accessible room as there are lots of little stair cases and only one lift.
Over all this is a great hotel and we definitely stay again if we visited Guernsey.

This was my first visit to Guernsey and I would go again. OGH is in a perfect location if you are in town. The hotel is perfect for service - every single employee is on the same page and goes out of their way to be charming to all the guests which was really impressive. I loved having lunch and a glass of wine in the pretty garden over looking the sea. The pool is small but just fine to sit around and the sun beds are very decent, clean and comfortable. The food was excellent at every meal and just loved the "churns" of sweets you could help yourself too. Some parts of the hotel look fine - some look a bit cluttered and like your Nan's living room. A bit of a clear out and some modern refurbishment to compliment the beautiful old building would be my choice. However overall - I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

My Mum and I stayed at OGH at the start of June, on our first visit to Guernsey. It was her first holiday in 5 years, for lots of reasons I was hoping it would be a good break for her - and Guernsey is lovely but this brilliant hotel made it a truly wonderful experience for both of us.

OGH is simply the best hotel either of us have ever stayed at. It's located in a quiet little street about 20 mins drive from the airport and a 10 min dawdle down to the marina at St Peter Port. The building is architecturally quirky which makes it look and feel completely unlike the usual hotel experience, with rooms scattered around many little corridors and various charming lounges and side-rooms on the main floor to sit back and relax in. It's fabulously well maintained throughout, the decor is immaculate and everything is spotlessly clean (it doesn't even smell like the average hotel!) We ate a lot in the brasserie and bar - lovely airy rooms, super-fresh ingredients and a kitchen who were happy to put together menu variations on request.

The garden is beautiful and lush with some great views over the harbour and town: the pool was crystal-clear and we loved both swimming in it and lounging about by it (weather was great throughout our stay). We had excellent queen rooms with balconies overlooking the harbour - well worth it, with beautiful sunny views out to Hern and Sark. I slept every night with the balcony door open, and it was so peaceful and restful - even the local seagulls seem too stylish to make a lot of noise!

Everything about OGH was delightful, but the staff are the icing on the cake - they are a superb team. The Red Carnation mantra is all about excellent service, and they embody it perfectly. Everyone was friendly, helpful, efficient and with an unfussy style that made us both feel really relaxed and at-home. They have the knack of making you feel they really are enjoying helping you with anything you might ask for, from specific guides to Guernsey's ancient sights to shifting that terrifyingly heavy parasol base by the pool.

All in all, I could not have hoped for a better holiday for either of us. We loved Guernsey and staying at OGH made our break there just heavenly. I know this sounds gushy but it really was a special place and I want to congratulate OGH and all its lovely people for treating us so well. Our only problem now is planning how soon we can go back!
