We stayed at this hotel at the end of July for5 nights. We chose the hotel because of the idyllic setting- however are accommodation was in the Venue close to the main road and local tavern. The venue is a beautiful building with well presented rooms. Our room was a silver room and was smaller than we had expected. There were very well maintained gardens leading to the main hotel which was also well maintained. The Ocean restaurant served good quality fish dishes and the rock Garden( very popular with locals) served fabulous steaks. The terrace was a great place for breakfast and lunch. There was a short but very steep walk through the gardens to a small stoney beach. The beach cafe was superb and served alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. There were also homemade savoury dishes and desserts. It was also accessible to visitors by boat or coastal paths. I would stay at this hotel again but would prefer a room facing the gardens or the sea!

We spent three nights at the hotel and wouldn't hesitate to return to it on a visit to the island in future. You can always find minutia to moan about but the main things are done well at Fermain Valley. The staff were friendly and attentive but unobtrusive. We were never kept waiting when being served our meals. The food was delicious and we liked the contrast of atmospheres between the Ocean and Rock Garden restaurants. The Rock Garden was a real surprise, hidden away on the first floor and offering an excellent selection of steaks. We also took meals from the Terrace Menu which we ate in one of the more informal areas. This menu is also available for room service and there is no charge for that service. We had a room with a balcony and wonderful valley and sea view. I would recommend such a room. The complimentary bottled water in the fridge and fudge to greet us was welcomed.
Addressing some of the concerns I've read. Having a pool available to use was preferable to having it closed for the touching up work that needs doing. Several times we had the pool to ourselves. The complimentary car service is often available, but if it's not there's a bus stop at the top of the road and a trip only costs £1. We walked to and from St Peter Port and thought the hotel was in a good position on the island. The walk back was a bIt of a challenge, but a useful way to work off various indulgences, one being the lemon cheesecake cocktail from the Rock Garden!
We enjoyed watching the planes when they went by, it didn't disturb us at all.
We felt that if you had any request, everything would be done within the realms of possibility to meet it.
We frequently stay in some of the most recommended hotels, there are some of those we wouldn't return to, but we would to this one. We had a really relaxing time.

As a regular visitor to Guernsey, my first stay at Farmain Valley may have just made it my favourite place to stay on the island. The hotel has four stars and you can expect a quality of stay and friendliness of staff that firmly reflects that.

The setting is fantastic, with the hotel on several levels facing down towards the beach - our room has a great view looking out to sea. In order to get from our room on the top level of accommodation down to the main body of the hotel is a couple of minutes walk through the beautifully laid out gardens - this might be worth bearing in mind if your mobility is not great as the path is somewhat steep, but for us it was a great way to start the day with a relaxing outdoor stroll down to breakfast. On the subject of which, the breakfast was the other star of the show - huge range of continental and cooked options; I opted for three different fish options on each of our three mornings there.

Our room was huge with a double bed plus sofa and table, plus plenty of room for our travelcot. Complimentary sparking water, fruit and sherry (!) were all nice touches. The facilities are good - we tried both restaurants and made full use of the pool, sauna and terrace. Apparently for the motivated you can walk down the valley to the beach should you wish.

The hotel is on the flight path for planes approaching the airport but unless you are very averse to noise this isn't too much of an issue as no large planes fly into Guernsey. It was warm enough for us to sleep with the windows open during our stay and we weren't disturbed at any time. Location-wise, it is generally in a fairly quiet area - maybe a 30 minute walk into St Peter POrt (uphill on the way back it should be noted). The Fermain Tavern pub is very close by and is decent for a couple of drinks should you wish to stay locally.

Overall, a great place to stay in Guernsey.

We recently spent a week at this hotel and many aspects were very good including the breakfasts, the swimming pool and the politeness of the staff. The setting too is wonderful. However our room, number 22, fell short of what we were expecting being classed as a 'gold' room. It was very cramped and had a stained and tired looking carpet. Another point worth bearing in mind is that the hotel caters for a number of functions and on returning one evening both their car parks were full and we were redirected to an unlit one down the valley sharing it with what were presumably abandoned cars. Not really four star hotel treatment I suggest.

I had a wonderful stay here and would not hesitate to book again. Daniel first took my booking and was so kind and helpful as I really didn't know guernsey at all. Magdalena was also wonderful at the front desk where nothing is too much trouble. My room was lovely and really comfortable. The rock garden is a great place to eat. And the hotel is ideally situated to explore Guernsey. Lucus the hotel driver is also so helpful and happy to take you to the airport or town. A perfect gentleman.

We were unlucky, but at a hotel that costs this much, you shouldn't be able to be unlucky with the room. We saw two other rooms, and they were both much bigger and much nicer than ours, but ours was just plain average. The bathroom was worn and the wifi didn't work in our room (probably to far from internet router). We were so disappointed, as we had seen our friends get nice rooms. So probably in 8/10 visits this would have been great, but obviously they still have some "last resort"-rooms that they have to use when they are fully booked.

Great breakfast, clean. Nice surroundings.

We had been invited to Guernsey by a friend who was having a birthday bash and as I knew it slightly chose the Fermain as our base for the 2 night stay. We booked the lowest grade room, which was at their annexe The Venue. Our room faced the road and included a Saturday night. There was no noise at all and we were able to sleep well in the very comfortable surroundings, with all the trimmings, including good wifi. The Fermain is a very stylish hotel and we would be happy to stay here again.

Other than breakfast we did not have a main meal in the hotel. Minor gripes included elements with breakfast service which they still haven't got quite right, judging from previous reviewers. On any busy morning they need someone going round all the time on 'refill cup of coffee duty'. The first morning we never did get one. On the second morning the table we were shown to was only half set so we had to keep asking for extra table elements to be brought to us, like sugar and butter and marmalade pots. In other words there didn't seem to be someone managing the breakfast service, which, for a 4* hotel didn't seem quite right.

Alll the staff were friendly and obliging and the free car service into town and the airport was invaluable. We hope we might return at some point, for a further visit.

Booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my mother. Things did get off to a rocky start (no car to meet us at the airport as promised & no table booked in the restaurant as requested) but the staff could not have done more to make it up to us. The hotel was just wonderful with a great location, wonderful views and friendly staff. Our room was clean and bright and the little touches were lovely. Free car service into town was much appreciated as was the free wifi. A special mention for Romain who went out of his way to ensure our stay was memorable and to the lovely car driver who was so kind and helpful to my Mum. I hope we can return soon.

Had a lovely 3 night stay here and would definitely book again. Lovely gold room with valley view, very clean and so quiet and relaxing. Breakfast great, had a meal in the Ocean Restaurant which was very nice, not too expensive (paid more in restaurants in St Petersport!) but could have done with a little more veg, presented beautifully. Staff very obliging. Lovely small pebble beach at Fermain bay a short walk down the hill. Five minutes by car into St Petersport, a lovely town right next to the marina.

Had a 4 night break with my husband and my mum. My mum had a Platinum room ( room 15 ) which was amazing. Rather think it could have been the honeymoon suite. It was vast. Had a lovely view. Massive bed, loads of wardrobe space, the bathroom had a shower over the bath and a separate shower, 2 sinks and a separate toilet. She actually spent a full day in the room to make the most of it. Me and my husband had a silver room ( room 39 ). This was quite adequate, not a good view but we weren't bothered by it. The only drawback was when the Rock Garden Bar / Restaurant was open, the smell from the kitchen wafted up. Nice touches with the decanter of sherry (not my tipple but never mind), the complimentary toiletries were Elemis, the towels were plentiful and dried you really well. We stayed on a Half Board basis. Breakfasts were excellent. Choice of fruit juices, cereals, fruit, croissant etc, full english (we had that every day), kippers and so on. The evening meals were in the Ocean Restaurant and as the name suggests consisted of mainly seafood. There were alternative choices but not many. The Rock Garden served a vast selection of steaks. The bar in here is extremely well stocked. Cocktails are a must. We didn't eat there as it was too busy for my mum to cope with but the food looked amazing. We didn't use the pool, sauna, library, shuttle bus or the cinema so can't comment them. The tiered terrace was lovely to sit out on with a long cold beer in an afternoon. Every single member of staff was extremely polite and helpful and very friendly. My mum was in a wheelchair and they always came to help us. Nothing was too much trouble. Mr Robert Steen, the manager, was in every day and always came to have a word with us, making us feel a valued guest. I would definitely return to this hotel and have hesitation in recommending it. x
