The hotel is excellent in every way. The rooms are a good size and spotlessly clean. The tea a coffee is replenished regularly and all the staff are charming and helpful. The food was good quality and varied. You could not ask for more.
The only downside to the weekend was the weather so all ferries were stopped and it was blowing a gale most of the time we were there and there was a very noisy wedding group staying (not the hotel's fault).
We really enjoyed our stay there and if we returned to Guernsey again we would definitely stay at this hotel.

Lovely christmas lunch and bottle of wine. Bill 170.00, fine as Christmas day plus a tip for the excellent service. Finished at 2.45 just in time for queens speech, purchased bottle of beer. Quiz started and then went to purchase another drink at around 3.45 and refused drink as not residents. I understand the license rules but we were paying guests and not walkins from the street. We were there for the day as on only the 2 of us at home. We have had Christmas lunch many times out on the island have have never been treated like this. Will never give them my money again.

This was our second 5-night Christmas break at this hotel, splendidly organised through Island Getaways. Flights from Gatwick and car hire were included in a well-priced deal. This is one of the finest hotels on the island with very comfortable rooms and a high standard of service. Although the leisure centre and pool are currently under reconstruction we were provided with passes for a nearby hotel which we used every day. We were on a half-board basis plus Christmas lunch and the food was simply outstanding. We fully intend to return next year and thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel. The bedroom was large and comfortable with a balcony over the lovely gardens. The balcony had a tables and two chairs. The bathroom, which had a bath with shower over, was perfectly adequate with the usual supply of lotions and soap. The television had about 14 channels including radio (no Sky channels) and none of any significance (if any) for non-English speakers.

We were surprised to get a complementary bottle of method traditional (non french champagne) wine for a milestone birthday.

The breakfast was largely self-service with only juice, tea/coffee and toast brought to the table.

Unfortunately use was not made of the health facilities. Hopefully next time.

The hotel and grounds are superb and situated just outside of the town with a bus stop right outside. Our room was spacious and on the lower floor so that it opened out onto the lawn with a verandah outside where we could sit and enjoy the view. We had very comfortable beds, tea and coffee in the room and a nice bath and shower. Breakfast offered a massive choice from the buffet as well as a menu from which you could choose extra dishes. The food in the bar was really good with a wide choice and the staff everywhere from the maintenance men to the manager were so polite and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. The new swimming pool was beautiful and the member of staff that showed us around was very obviously proud of all the facilities, and justifiably so. Our last night we ate in Victor Hugo restaurant and I have to say that the food was exquisite, both in taste and presentation. We will definitely go back there again, by which time the health suite/spa will be completed offering even more for guests to enjoy.

We were taken out to lunch here, and it was very pleasant indeed. They have their own Brassiere and you can, subject to weather, eat outside. The menu is quite varied, with a good children's menu to choose from. Equally, the kids do have a play area, so you can keep an eye open, whilst you eat.

This is a lovely hotel conveniently located in the heart of St Peter Port. The service was second to none and nothing was too much trouble. The staff clearly enjoy working here and it shows in their dedication to making our stay as comfortable as possible. Can highly recommend it and would love to go back sometime.

my company has an office close to the hotel and a corporate rate with them (which by the way is still pretty steep), so staying there seemed to be the most sensible thing to do. which leads me to the only really positive thing i can say about it - the best thing about the OGH is its location, an easy walk to the centre of town.

the impression of the hotel is best from the outside. a lot of effort seems to have gone into an apparently recent facelift of the facade. unfortunately, not so much effort was spent on the inside. while it may be historic and some of the public areas try to recreate the good old times, it is not executed in a nice way. rather than having a romantic and charming feel about it, it just seems old and grubby, as there is a strange kind of smell throughout the hotel which i can’t really describe, other than it just smells OLD. my room was not nice. though it seemed to have new furnishings, they were made to look old, which again gave it a rather tacky feel.

overall, i would say the hotel has a strange kind of 50s feel to it that may appeal to the elderly couples the hotel is so full of. and, what’s more, for the price they are asking i would be expecting a lot more!

breakfast is made to order only, which may be nice when you are on a holiday, but doesn’t really suit business travelers who are in a hurry in the morning.

if this is the best hotel in guernsey - so we were told - i am curious about the standard and value for money at the other ones!
