Art at the Park is delighted to host Georgina Smart's first solo exhibition - 'Land, Sea and Feathers'.

Running from Tuesday the 5th of August until Friday the 4th of September, 10am until 5pm daily (but closing at 2pm on the final day), the exhibition focuses on our local wildlife, in particular the birdlife of the island, as well as some landscapes. Georgina's free watercolour style is refreshing and light, befitting the birdlife it portrays. Bold puffins and singing wrens share space with foraging avocets along with backgrounds of Harbour lighthouses and Fort Grey. 

In Georgina's own words;-

'I completed a BA Illustration degree at Bournemouth University (2018–2021), where I developed my creative practice through drawing, observation, and visual storytelling. During this time, I wrote and illustrated a children’s book titled Hope, inspired by Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is the thing with feathers”. This project explored themes of resilience, imagination, and emotional expression, and marked an important point in the development of my creative voice.

Following my degree, I went on to complete an MSc in Art Psychotherapy (2022–2024). This training strengthened my belief in art as a powerful tool for communication, reflection, and healing, particularly when words are not enough or difficult to find. My academic and clinical journey has been shaped by an ongoing interest in how creativity can support emotional wellbeing and foster connection with both self and others.

I am now a practising Art Therapist, working with individuals to support their mental health and wellbeing through creative processes. Alongside this professional role, I continue to maintain my own personal art practice, connecting with art for my own wellbeing and creative expression.

For this exhibition, ‘Land, Sea and Feathers’, I have focused on birds and the natural beauty of Guernsey. I am drawn to the interconnectedness between people, nature, and wellbeing, and how time in natural environments can offer grounding and relief. Observing birds in particular brings me a sense of calm and joy.

This work reflects my response to Guernsey’s landscapes and birdlife, and is an invitation to slow down, notice, and reconnect with the quiet beauty found in everyday encounters with the natural world.'
