The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has issued additional guidance for businesses to assist with safety during the unrest in London.

The MPS is aware of the impact the disturbances are having on the business community and is making every effort to combat further criminal activity by increasing the levels of high visibility patrols across London.

There is also an increase in the number of police officers on the streets.

However there are many way in which businesses can help the Police to prevent and investigate criminal activity.

How businesses can assist the investigation

In order to assist with the reactive investigation the Police ask that businesses consider the following points:

  • Victims of looting can expect police to seize CCTV footage. Businesses should please ensure these are not erased and are kept out of sight should looters gain access to premises and take the opportunity to destroy the recording equipment
  • Additionally, businesses should keep a stock of tapes to replace those taken by police
  • Businesses should do all they can to ensure that the premises are as
    secure as possible
  • It would be helpful if any property stolen is as identifiable as possible, eg make, model, serial numbers and colour
  • Reliance on stock records will be higher than normal. Checks should be made to ensure they are up to date.
