To mark the 80th anniversary of the Speaking Clock, BT are running a competition for the next permanent voice of the Speaking Clock. The competition is being run with BBC's The One Show and the winner will be announced during Children in Need on 9th November.

You must be aged 10 or over to enter the competition. To enter you need to email an audio recording of yourself reading the test script and include ‘Speaking Clock’ in the subject line.

Entries close at 10pm on Monday 29th August.

Enter the competition here.

There have only been 4 permanent voices since the Speaking Clock started in 1936.

The most popular time for calls to the Speaking Clock is on Remembrance Day, New Year’s Eve or when the clocks go forward or back. Calls cost 45p per minute from a BT landline.

BT will donate 10p for every call made to the speaking clock until 9th November to a maximum of £50,000.
